“…Ward was spinning about the stage with his arms flung out, as all five of his bandmates provided stacked harmonies behind him. The crushed-together crowd pressed up against the barricade, right arms raised overhead, as Ward in his broad-brim brown hat and long-fringe buckskin vest egged them on. It was as if he had sucked the audience into his push-and-pull dance of doubt and confidence.” – Paste Magazine
Simon Ward’s charismatic stage presence always shines through, whether it’s him and his guitar sitting on a dimly lit stage, or if he’s set up ‘bright lights big city’ style with all the fixins’. Starting out over a decade ago at open mic nights, through residencies at The Dakota Tavern in Toronto where he spent much of his twenties, and on to stages across Europe, The UK and North America, Ward has captivated each audience that he stands before. He has scored coveted festival spots at the best of them, including Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Newport Folk, Rock en Seine, British Summer Time and Byron Bay. He’s also enjoyed playing on some heavy hitter tv spots including The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Conan, Circus Halli Galli – The JUNOs, and more.
Ward has spent the last decade as part of the JUNO Award-winning Lindsay, Ontario indie-folk pop band, The Strumbellas, recording four full length studio albums and a slew of live and acoustic performances. His solo project, Simon and the Island, has just launched through his own imprint, Windsurfer Records in Canada; Glassnote Music for the rest of the world.
Ward was a feature singer on Big House, a song he wrote, which appears on Splash’N Boots’ 2021 Children’s Album of the Year JUNO Award-winning record, Heart Parade. He also co-wrote and featured as a vocalist on Serena Ryder’s Famous, which came out in 2019.
